X Mike Gorman – www.gormanpaintings.co.uk

Image

From early beginings in the Hyper Realist movement of the seventies, the work has subsequently moved on to refine a more personal style of imagery and content to includeclassical and renaissance architecture, formal  gardens and landscapes. With its frequent allusion to the female nude the work has a warm sensuous feel combined with a tranquil timeless atmosphere. Recent paintings draw on the rocky limestone seascape and the intense light of the coast of Cyprus, often  as a background to the figure.

An innovative use of acrylic combines the use of broken colour, dots, stipples and washes with elements derived from earlier study of photographic process and nineteenth century pointiliste colour theory. The resultant work has a vibrant illusory quality which is quite distinctive.

Work in private and public collections world wide.

Denise Allen at b Gallery

denise 9_1

Bramfield painter Denise Allen once sold a painting of waves crashing on to the shore because the buyer felt it made her “want to take her shoes and socks off”.

Allen, who admits that she has become obsessed with depictions of waves on the foreshore, devotes many of her paintings to this subject. Others are studies of evening skies – another favourite theme. In painting both sea and sky she is fascinated by the effects of light and her work often focuses on the network patterns that are produced – in the sea by the foam fragmenting and in the sky by the dying light penetrating and breaking up the clouds.
In her studies of waves crashing Denise believes that the scale and shape of her canvases should match the subject matter. That is why many of the works on show are large, long and narrow. Ideally, and if they would sell, she would paint even larger pictures.
Although she has always had a passion for art and initially was attracted to painting wildlife, Denise’s love of the sea was fostered while living in Bermuda. On returning to the UK she help found the gallery Art Shed, but gave up her share to concentrate on her own watercolours and oils and to establish the painting holidays she still runs in Menorca. Today, the holiday island remains an important source of inspiration, though others include the craggy coasts and wild seas of Cornwall and Northumberland.

X MONTE WRIGHT – http://monteartist.org/ X

Painter and artiste extraordinaire, Monte herein establishes himself once again as an artistic force to be reckoned with. The artist’s work has changed greatly over the years, and is seldom simple. He courageously goes beyond the given and familiar, pioneering new techniques and materials in order to expand his own vision.

A master of colour, Monte is equally adept in his use of pure white in his paintings. The artist’s intent is to block out the outside world in order to give the viewer space in which to roam freely. Monte teaches us that a painting should not end on the canvas. It should encourage viewers to create worlds of their own. And, with each and every brushstroke Monte’s work allows us to do just that.

Monte continues to show his work both nationally and internationally. His interests continue to vary in scope, from contemporary, abstract art to a series of works called ‘Behind the Mask”
