After the positive reception from last year’s “Top 50 ‘Pictures of the Day’ for 2011“, the Sifter promised to highlight the top 25 ‘Pictures of the Day‘ at the end of every quarter, eventually culminating in an epic Top 100 for 2012.

Stoer Head Lighthouse was built in the 19th century and stands at the northern end of The Minch, a strait which separates the North West Highlands from the Hebrides. In a bothy close by there’s a remarkable mural of the lighthouse, thought to have been painted in the 19th century. The Old Man of Stoer in the photograph below is a 200ft sea stack which is inhabited by fulmars and popular with rock climbers.
It’s a fair walk between the two, which was made a little more difficult as I was carrying digital and film cameras. These photos were made with a digital SLR. I didn’t get to use the film camera much during the two days I spent at this location. However, I hope to pay a return visit one day with plenty of rolls of film!

I rekindled my passion for art in 2011 having not painted for about 20 years. I moved home to Shoreham Beach in West Sussex, England, and being a few yards from the sea, found that I was naturally drawn to depicting those scenes.
All this coincided with me reducing my hours at work which has enabled me to focus more on art.
I now sell my work via the internet and at The Shoreham Gallery in Brunswick Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, where my current work can be viewed.
My paintings are in acrylic, unframed with painted edges.
